Spring 2025 Issue Out Now!
Letter from the Editor
Michael O'Hare
Greetings, readers. Once again, we are entering my favorite season, autumn. Among the cascading leaves and cooling temperatures, I encourage you to read the fresh content that we have introduced to The Utrecht Pigeon.
This Fall, we are publishing an eclectic variety of work, recharging our beloved magazine with new energy and viewpoints. At the core of our content remains reader submissions; this time around, the resonance of new voices and novice talents make their appeal to our hearts. I extend my deepest gratitude for their submissions, and thank you, the reader, for returning to read all we have to offer.
Woven into these pages is a gentle and quiet cadence which I hope will compel your attention away from the volume of noise which has captivated the globe. This infusion of delicate words is reminiscent of the energies captured in our gallery photo "Sleeping Doves," where a multitude of these birds sit noiseless, almost somber but powerful, beckoning a closer examination of what resides within us. The bare branches they rest on resemble the diaphanous strands of silk in a spider's web, but with seasons' refresh they adopt a new aura of renewal and fullness.
From that image, to the experience of watching a songbird as described in Sylvia White's poem wings, to the almost overwhelming depictions of a bustling avenue in Enya Tang's Things in sight., may we be reminded of our interconnectedness and choose to be more conscious of our own output into the world.
For many of us at The Utrecht Pigeon, this marks a bittersweet turning point, our final year of high school. A cornerstone of the end of high school is finding deeper purpose and meaning in life. My fervent wish is that the insights of our publication will assist you in this challenging, yet rewarding, quest.đ“…‚

Poetry | wings
by Sylvia White
the perched bird reminds me
of spring and fall
of when leaves come and go
flowers sprout and shrink
and the bird's song
reminds me that the bird is free,
free to fly and sing in another tree.
Poetry | Things in sight.
by Enya Tang
The train echoes as it rolls on by
And the people are loud, the pigeons flying,
Headlights flashing, streetlights changing,
A plastic bag meandering
Turning right left, right left,
Then disappearing, somewhere,
Up in the sky watching us all.
